HEALTH INFORMATION EXCHANGE (HIE) PAGE¶
Health Information Exchange (HIE) is the mobilization of health care information electronically across organizations within a region, community or hospital system. HIE provides the capability to electronically move clinical information among different health care information systems.
This information is collected in NPPES to facilitate the electronic exchange of health care information such as Medical records, order and referrals, etc., in a safe and secure fashion. Providers are encouraged to enter Endpoint information in NPPES to promote interoperability in health care, however, this information is not required to obtain an NPI. Providers can still obtain an NPI without providing such information.

ENDPOINT (Optional)¶
Endpoints provide a simple, secure, scalable, and standards-based way for participants to send authenticated, encrypted health information directly to known, trusted recipients over the Internet. In NPPES, the providers can enter their Endpoint information when they request new NPIs or when they update their NPI information. The Endpoint details can be entered on both Individual (Type 1) and Organization (Type 2) NPI applications. This information will be made available on NPI Registry , APIs, and Data Dissemination Files for users to receive and consume.
Endpoints should not include personal email information.
